What's happening right now?

Locked out

Safely, right now

  1. Stay somewhere warm and safe while you wait, such as a neighbour's or your car.
  2. Don't break a window or pry the door. It adds damage without getting you in sooner.
  3. Keep ID that shows your address handy if it is with you.

Key broke in the lock

Safely, right now

  1. Don't push the broken piece back in or try the lock again.
  2. Hold on to the half you have; it helps with a new key.

Lock won't turn

Safely, right now

  1. Stop turning hard: a key that bends or snaps makes the job bigger.
  2. Don't spray oil or glue into it, and don't pour hot water on it in the cold.

Lost keys

Safely, right now

  1. If your address was with the keys, treat the lock as known to whoever finds them.
  2. Don't leave a spare key anywhere outside while you wait, under the mat or elsewhere.

A small apartment building, a clinic with six rooms, a shop with a back office: each in Mississauga benefits from one key that opens everything and individual keys that open only what they should. We design the system, pin the cylinders, and record who holds which key so it stays manageable.

The fix, explained · Mississauga

What is the door doing?

EmergencyHome Lockout ServiceYou stepped out to grab the recycling bin and the door swung shut behind you.

The fix

Most lockouts end with the original lock still on the door and still working. That is the point of professional entry: picks, tension tools, decoders and latch tools are designed to operate the mechanism the way a key would, without cutting or prying anything.

Call (289) 805-2659Request a visit Home Lockout Service

EmergencyBusiness Lockout ServiceThe heavy glass door has been scraping the threshold for weeks.

The fix

Authority for a business is a question about the company, not just the individual at the door. An owner shows identification and something connecting them to the premises, such as the lease or the business registration.

EmergencyBroken Key ExtractionThe apartment key snapped mid-turn, leaving the cylinder twisted halfway between locked and open.

The fix

Two facts shape the job before the locksmith arrives: whether the door is locked or unlocked, and whether any of the key is showing. A fragment that protrudes can often be gripped and drawn straight out.

EmergencyBreak-In Damage Lock RepairThe patio slider is sitting crooked on its track.

The fix

When a home is broken into, the locks are not the only thing that has changed hands. Keys hanging in the hall, a spare in a drawer, a garage remote on a visor or a house key on a stolen car's ring may all be gone.

EmergencySeized & Jammed Lock OpeningThe shop's lever handle goes down as usual, but the latch inside the mortise case never pulls back.

The fix

A lock rarely seizes without warning. It asks for a wiggle, then a firmer wiggle, then it needs the door pulled toward you, and one morning it stops.

The fix

When a key disappears, cutting yourself another copy solves the wrong half of the problem. You can get in again, but so can whoever finds the original.

    Deciding what to replace

We look at the existing lock, the door thickness and the holes already drilled. Sometimes a new cylinder is enough; sometimes the whole lockset has earned its retirement.

    Checking fit and finish

Fitting the new hardware. The new lock goes in with the strike adjusted so the bolt throws fully. If the old holes need filling or enlarging, that is done neatly.

Checking fit and finish. We test the lock with the door open and closed, from both sides, check the key turns without effort and clean up the doorstep before leaving.

What the census means at the door

38%

Homes of every age. About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

In neighbourhoods with a mix of older and newer homes, the finishes on the doors vary widely: aged brass, satin nickel, matte black. A locksmith serving such an area keeps a range of finishes so replacement hardware suits each house.

37%

Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census).

Where housing is mostly apartments and condos, mailbox locks are a regular call. A worn or lost mailbox key is a small job that a locksmith handles alongside the suite door, and the new lock comes with fresh keys cut on the spot.

People in Mississauga should understand what is on their door. So we explain in ordinary words: what grade of hardware you have, where the weak point is, and which change would actually make a difference. You get the reasoning, not just a recommendation, and then the decision is yours. Nobody is pushed into an upgrade they did not ask about.

Malton, Marvin Heights and Ridgewood

  • A locksmith who listens. The job starts with your description, not our assumptions. What you have noticed about the door often points to the cause before we touch it.

  • Honest about what is worth doing. Some hardware deserves saving and some does not. We tell you which and why, so you spend on what makes a difference.

  • Left better than found. The door works, the area is clean and you have keys, notes and a clear idea of what to watch for. That is the standard for every visit.

Good questions about locks

Advice · (289) 805-2659

If my key is lost, will I leave with a working key?

Yes, one way or another. If you choose to rekey, the cylinder is set to a new combination and fresh keys are cut for it on the spot, usually two or three, and tested in each door they should open. If you prefer to keep the existing pinning, a new key can be cut to the lock's code or by decoding the cylinder. Either way you are not left relying on a key that is somewhere else.

The door has to be pulled before the old bolt will lock. Will a new one fix that?

The new bolt will only lock as smoothly as the door and frame let it, so the locksmith deals with the cause as part of the installation. A door that has sagged on loose hinges gets longer hinge screws or a shim, thick weatherstrip is trimmed, and the strike is set from the bolt's actual position with the door closed. The pocket is bored deep enough for a full throw. Afterwards the bolt should slide with fingertip effort.

How does a smart lock cope with our winters?

Well, with a little planning. Cold reduces battery capacity, so the locksmith fits fresh cells of the type the maker specifies and points you to the low-battery alert, and a new set before the first hard frost is a good habit. The bolt is aligned with clearance so a door that swells or shifts with freeze and thaw does not strain the motor. Keep ice off the keypad, and use lock de-icer only in the key cylinder, never on the touch surface.

Can a gate that slams shut be fixed without replacing the whole closer?

Often, yes. A closer that slams is frequently just out of adjustment rather than worn out, and bringing its closing speed and final latching action back into a sensible range solves the problem on its own. Replacement becomes the answer when the arm, seals or internal fluid have genuinely failed, which the locksmith checks for directly rather than assuming from the symptom alone. Either way, the gate is tested through several full cycles before the visit is called finished.
